What can my employer see on my personal device with a work profile?

This is one of the most common questions from employees whose organisation has deployed a work profile on their personal device.

What your employer can see:

  • Applications installed within the work profile
  • Data associated with work apps (email, files, contacts within the work profile)
  • Device-level information: device model, OS version, serial number (company-owned), and security patch level
  • Whether the device meets compliance requirements (screen lock enabled, encryption status, OS version)

What your employer cannot see:

  • Personal apps and app data outside the work profile
  • Personal browsing history, photos, messages, or contacts
  • Personal email accounts
  • Location (unless a work app explicitly requires it and you have granted permission)
  • Call logs or SMS messages on the personal side

The work profile creates a separate, isolated container on the device. Work apps appear with a small briefcase badge to distinguish them from personal apps. Your organisation's management policies apply only within this container.

Your employer can remove the work profile remotely, which deletes all work data from the device. This does not affect personal data, apps, or accounts outside the work profile.
